Welcome to our second edition for 2009. We received very positive feedback from our first edition and hope you enjoy reading the latest news from the Faculty.
Swine flu (H1N1) continues to be an issue for Australia. In late June I travelled to Geneva as part of the World Health Organisation’s Swine Flu Summit where guidelines were determined for the management of the spread of the virus.

FACULTY BUILDING EXTENSION TAKING PLACE

Construction is steadily continuing on the $3.8 million extension to Level 2 of our Health Sciences and Medicine building. This new area will provide much needed laboratory and office space due to the continued growth of the faculty.

PHYSIOTHERAPY PROGRAM ACHIEVES PRELIMINARY ACCREDITATION AND CELEBRATES INAUGURAL GRADUATION

Our Doctor of Physiotherapy Program has been awarded 12 month Accreditation from the Australian Physiotherapy Council. Bond’s D Phty program is the first program in Australia to receive this level of accreditation and is on track to become the first fully accredited physiotherapy program in Australia next year.

MASTER OF HIGH PERFORMANCE SCIENCE LAUNCHED

Bond University’s Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine launched its Masters of High Performance Science degree on Tuesday 16 June, 2009. Keynote speakers for the occasion were Mayor Ron Clarke and Professor Peter Fricker, Director, Australian Institute of Sport.

SPORTS SCIENCE GRADUATE SECURES DREAM JOB AT AIS

The Sports Science field, especially biomechanics, is constantly evolving according to recent Bond University Master of Sports Science graduate, Kate Sloan.

PHCRED WELCOMES VISITING PROFESSORS Our Primary Health Care Research Evaluation and Development (PHCRED) Centre recently hosted three visiting Professors, Dr John Furler, from Melbourne Dr Marie Pirotta and from Newcastle Dr Parker Magin.
Facilitated by the Director of PHCRED and Associate Dean of Research, Professor Mieke Van Driel, the representatives from the Brisbane International Initiative visited the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine to present their research and meet relevant Faculty staff and students aimed at encouraging networking.
