Congratulations to the Bondies who are currently in
Melbourne taking part in the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Bond Sporting Scholar and triple Commonwealth Games Representative Giaan Rooney won silver in her two events: the 50m and 100m backstroke, narrowly missing Gold in her pet event (50m backstroke), by the smallest margin of 0.01sec.

Rooney was also named Australian Swim Team Captain for the Games. At the time of the announcement, the reigning 50m backstroke world champion said was “honoured, humbled and flattered all at the same time and a little bit scared”.

Rooney is deputising for Telstra Dolphins Australian team captain Grant Hackett, another Bond Sporting Scholar, who was unable to swim in
Melbourne due to a shoulder injury. Instead, Grant is busy with commentating duties for Channel 7 Sunrise (pictured left), and we wish him a speedy recovery.
Congratulations also go to Bond Alumnus and Professional Triathlete Annabel Luxford
(pictured right), who clinched fifth in a gutsy performance in the Women’s Triathlon last Saturday.
Behind the scenes, Bondy Adam Khamis has been busy working as a Broadcast Editor for the Games, putting his years of experience as a special effects technician on films such as The Matrix and Superman to good use.
If you know of any other Bondies who were involved in the Commonwealth Games, or were part of them yourself, we would love to hear from you.
