NEW WEBSITE ON TARGET FOR JUNE LAUNCH
Mid-June is the target date for the launch of the University’s new public website. The new website structure is student-focussed with some major differences in the way information is organised compared to the current site. Information sessions are being scheduled to introduce staff to the new structure before it goes public.
This will be the first site launched as part of the Enterprise Content Management System Project. The project has seen collaboration across the university with representatives from every organisational unit being involved with stakeholder consultation, planning and content preparation. 2500+ pages of content will be migrated to the new system (Oracle Universal Content Manager) and around 40 staff have been trained in web page content creation and metadata management.
One of the main aims of the project is to implement a distributed content management model with less reliance on technical skills for the University’s website and the staff intranet. Most web content will be managed via a web browser interface and will not require specialised software or extensive training for users. Additional training sessions to extend the pool of content contributors will be held after the site has been launched and the system is bedded down.
Upcoming project activities:
  • Degree and Fields of Study content to be uploaded
  • Security testing
  • Load testing
  • Workflow training for content contributers and approvers
