After completing his studies in February 2009, with a Bachelor of Exercise Science from Bond University, Jeremy Hefford began his career as a Cardiac Technician with Heartlab Pty Ltd.

“Essentially I am responsible for the preparing patients for exercise stress tests, and explaining the test results to patients, and what they will need to do during the exercise test. Then throughout the test, I take the patient’s blood pressure and monitor the ECG and maintain a high standard of care for each patient” said Jeremy.

“Heartlab is involved in the cardiac health area. As a Cardiac Technician I also conduct Exercise Stress Tests, 24-hour Holter Monitors and Event Loop Recorders and Stress Echoes. I then review the results and prepare a brief report for the Cardiologist to read” said Jeremy.

“The valuable experience Jeremy gained through his Bachelor of Exercise Science prepared him for the position with Heartlab” said Head of School – Health Sciences, Professor Greg Gass.

“Exercise Science students have the opportunity to extensively develop their practical skills through utilising the equipment available in the Faculty laboratories as part of the structured learning completed during their degree” said Professor Gass.

"This structured learning is further complemented by a demanding professional experience program that is intended to give the Bond University graduates a significant advantage in a tight employment market."

"We take employment outcomes for our students very seriously" says Professor Gass.

During his time at Bond, Jeremy also had the opportunity to participate in the NHMRC grant, and nationally recognised, STEPforWARD research project examining the effects of exercise prescription doses in women aged 65-74 years of age, directed by Professor Greg Gass and Dr Clare Minahan.

Jeremy says that receiving his degree from Bond University and then obtaining a job as a Cardiac Technician were his biggest achievements to date.

Through combining the professional experience obtained through his degree program and the clinical experience from his position at Heartlab, Jeremy is looking forward to furthering his career in the Exercise Science industry.
