Bond University students and staff would like to invite you to their production of "Three Laughs and You're Out" on 24 and 25 March. The performance will feature three one-act plays by authors Woody Allen, Richard Tydeman and Anton Chekhov.
In a twisted take of the classic Cinderella fairytale, ‘Red Hot Cinders’ by Richard Tydeman will be performed by an all-student cast, some of which are first-timers to the stage.
Director, Mr Chamkaur Gill, said the students have taken well to the new experience.
"The ‘Red Hot Cinders’ cast, which is made up of study-abroad students from the United States, Taiwan and Thailand, is doing exceptionally well – especially as English is a second language for some of them."
But the students aren’t having all the fun, with Bond’s staff also joining in for the second of the plays – Woody Allen’s ‘My Apology’.
Centred around a recurring dream of Allen’s, ‘My Apology’ places the central character, Socrates, in a prison cell awaiting sentence by the Senate in Ancient Greece. His soliloquy and philosophical conversations with visiting friends combine both modern and ancient concepts in Allen’s own incomparable style.
The third of the plays - Anton Chekhov’s ‘A marriage proposal’ – is an all-staff production, and explores the comical moments and problems arising from marriage.
Mr Gill said his fellow staff members have also been contributing admirably during rehearsals.
"The staff have been very generous in offering their free-time. I’m confident all our hard work will pay off and our audience will be treated to a quality performance," Mr Gill said.
A seasoned Director, Mr Gill has been involved in all aspects of theatre since his childhood days, having previously filled the shoes of Actor, Director and Producer in plays ranging from high drama to low-brow comedy.
"I've always enjoyed directing when I have a committed cast, and that is certainly the case this time," Mr Gill said.
The performances will begin at 7:30pm in the Cerum theatre, level 3 of the Bond University Centre. A pre-performance dinner will be available at Bond’s a-la-carte restaurant – The University Club. Tickets are $21, including dinner, or $5 for the performance only. Dinner reservations can be made on (07) 5595 6067 and tickets are available through Fay Pollock on (07) 5595 1112.
