ATTENTION ALL BUDDING SPIELBERGS: BUFTA APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN!

Scene from Cameron's award winning film The Bushman of Bunyip BillabongBond University invites all year 11 and 12 budding filmmakers to enter the Bond University Film and Television Awards (BUFTA).

The nation wide competition opened on October 1, with entries closing November 1, and is expected to attract more than 150 short-film entries with the winner taking out a full tuition film and television scholarship (valued at $74,880) at Bond University.

Films of up to eight minutes in length and produced by students within the last 12 months will be accepted across the six categories of Animation, Drama, Documentary, Experimental, Comedy and Other.

The competition is free to enter and students are encouraged to enter as many short-films as they like.

Finalists are invited to attend the official Bond University Film and Television Gala Awards Night held at Bond’s Gold Coast campus on December 7.

Previous winners of the prestigious award have gone on to achieve nationwide recognition for their contribution to the industry.

South Australian Cameron Edser’s 2005 winning animation, The Bushman of Bunyip Billabong, (pictured) secured his place in Bond’s film and television school and has lead to further success in the industry.

"Winning BUFTA was a great help and it has really helped put my name, and my film, on the map," Cameron said.

His winning short film, The Bushman of Bunyip Billabong, has since been accepted in over 20 international film festivals and saw him awarded $15,000 as a finalist in the Nescafe Big Break Competition.

An online tutorial is available for further information on competition requirements as well as tricks of the trade from renowned industry leaders.

All senior students aspiring to break into the Australian Film and Television industry are encouraged to become involved in this year’s BUFTAs.

Calls for applications opened on October 1 and close on November 1, 2007.
