ACHIEVEMENTS AND ACCOLADES

Matthew BelcherThis month we recognise the achievements of talented Bondy sailors Mathew Belcher and Katie Cunneen and staff members Dr Kuldeep Kumar and Sonya Marshall-Gradisnik. We also recognise the Bond staff who have been successful in having their applications for Carrick Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning submitted to the Carrick Institute.

If you know of a good success story, please share it with us by emailing kristie_robinson@bond.edu.au.

Bond Student Mathew Belcher (pictured), who earlier this year won selection for the Beijing Olympics Australian Yachting Team, has yet another accolade to his name. Mathew and sailing partner Nick Behrens have continued their reign of world domination, with the pair taking out the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) world number one ranking for another term.
The accolade is another triumph for the sailors after they were recently announced as finalists in the Yachting Australia Awards for Sailors of the Year.

Another talented Bondy sailor, Katie Cunneen, has been selected to represent Australia in the World Team Racing Championship being held in Spain in late September. Katie’s selection comes after an outstanding performance at the Australian Team Racing Championships.

AEI Indonesia in co-operation with Bond University conducted highly successful seminars on Information Technology and International Relations at the Australian Embassy, Jakarta on 1 May 2007. This event brought together high profile academics and alumni from Bond University. The seminars were well attended by nearly 500 high profile students and lectures from prestigious universities and some representatives from Indonesian Government agencies.

Dr Kuldeep Kumar, Associate Professor, School of Business was recently invited speaker at SME Banking & Finance 2007 conference at Mumbai organised by Marcus Evans. Though Dr Kumar was only academic amongst the invited speakers but his talk on "Avoiding Business Failure by Utilizing Sophisticated Prediction Models for SMEs was well received by the bankers. In the words of the organiser Mr. Arman Charma "It was an excellent and informative presentation. Delegates have gained useful knowledge from this presentation and it has added value to this conference".

Hayley Edmunds accepts her Faculty AwardDREAMING OF A COUNTRY PRACTICE

With one semester left of her Health Sciences degree, Hayley Edmund’s vision of working in rural medicine is looking clearer than ever.

A born-and-bred country girl, Hayley grew up in the town of Casino in rural New South Wales, where she attended St Mary’s High School.

Graduating in 2003, she decided to take a break from study and save some pennies before commencing her study.

After working for a year-and-a-half Hayley heard about the Federal Government’s FEE-HELP scheme and decided with its help, she could afford to go to university and follow her dream.
