Professor Lars McNaughton has been appointed as the Head of the School of Health Sciences within Bond University’s Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine.
Professor McNaughton joins Bond from the University of Hull in England, where he was Head of the Department of Sport, Health and Exercise Science for the previous seven years.
With an academic career spanning more than 30 years and boasting more than one million dollars of research and equipment grants, Professor McNaughton is internationally recognised for his work in the area of acid base balance in exercise.
He hopes to use his international teaching and research experience to continue to grow the School of Health Sciences.
“I would like to see the School continue to build upon its excellent reputation across all programs and indeed, to expand the program offerings within the School,” Professor McNaughton said.
“We will continue to attract students who are keen to receive first-class teaching from academic staff who have a reputation for research-led and research-informed teaching, which assists our students in acquiring the Bond University graduate attributes of responsibility, leadership, critical thinking, teamwork and knowledge, to mention but a few.”
“Both the School of Health Sciences and the University have excellent reputations. The small class sizes and excellent teaching practices place Bond at the forefront of education, in times when many institutions simply teach the masses,” he said.
Professor McNaughton said the opportunity to work at Bond University was the drawcard for him to return to Australia from the United Kingdom, where he has been living and working since moving there from Tasmania in 1999.
