FROM THE VICE-CHANCELLOR
Professor Robert Stable

The Bond community is abuzz with excitement in the lead up to our annual Open Day this Sunday, August 22.

Open Day is a great opportunity to come along and meet our students and staff and get a true understanding of the unparalleled student experience that Bond University offers. There really is no better way to experience the beautiful campus, world class facilities and culture that makes Bond so special.

Choosing a university is both an academic and a lifestyle decision; and one which should not be taken lightly. I would encourage anyone who is considering studying at university to attend this Sunday between 10am – 3pm to ensure they are making an informed decision on their future.

In other news, we were pleased to recently receive our 2011 Good Universities Guide ratings and our latest audit report from the Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) – two independent assessments which have affirmed we are achieving our goal of providing an internationally focused and personalised education that prepares our students for work on the world stage.

For the fifth year running, we were again awarded five stars in the Good Universities Guide for student-staff ratio, which, at 10:1 and the lowest in Australia, was also looked on favourably by AUQA in terms of the personalised student experience it enables us to offer.

Bond also received the maximum five stars in seven other key indicators in the Guide, including student satisfaction, teaching quality and graduate outcomes – making us the highest performing university in Queensland.

These accolades were supported by the AUQA audit, which commended Bond for its student experience and truly international curricula.

Just as pleasing was the finding by AUQA that our students themselves also rated us well above sector averages in all three core scales of good teaching, generic skills and overall satisfaction for the five years 2003-2008, which speaks volumes of their perceptions of the high quality education Bond provides.

Overall, we are delighted with our performance in both assessments, which affirm our place as a dynamic and distinctive university. These are great results, and thank you to all the staff and students who made them possible.

The annual AIS traineeship attracts applications from hundreds of sports science students across Australia; Lachlan said that without the support of Bond University he may not have achieved such great success.

“Bond has given me a wonderful opportunity to gain the knowledge necessary to obtain this traineeship, and it is due to the great education I have received at the University that I’ve been granted this opportunity,” he said.
